Apart from the lotus posture, are there any other yoga poses you would recommend for practice during meditation?

F. Pinkhurst – Hereford

A: Siddhasana (Sage’s Pose) is an ancient posture practiced by sages for achieving high meditative states and for cleansing the inner energy systems.

To perform siddhasana, sit down on the floor so that the heel of the left foot is gently placed against the perineum and the right one just above the genitals. Keep the spine upright, head, and neck up. The ‘Hatha Yoga Pradipika’, an ancient book on yoga at stanza 39, states that siddhasana removes impurities and toxins from the 72,000 nadis (energy channels).

Hold the posture for at least 60 seconds. As you develop your practice, you can hold the posture for longer.

You may also like to try sukhasana (easy pose). To perform this, sit down with a straight spine and cross the legs. If you find it hard to sit like this, try massaging the kneecaps and legs daily for at least two weeks before attempting, and only hold the pose for a short period of time, i.e., 1-2 minutes.
