Whether you slip out of bed and straight into Ganda Bherundasana or can barely touch your knees before brushing your teeth, we at &Sister pride ourselves on producing a yoga retreat that is accessible and beneficial for all. It may help that one of us sisters – Alicia – is a qualified yoga teacher with over a decade’s worth of experience and the other – elder sister Natalie – is a yoga novice, but when designing our retreats and recruiting our teachers we never forget that we were all beginners once.
We know from fruitful experience just how rejuvenating and life-changing letting just a little bit of yoga into your life can be – and an immersive yoga retreat isn’t just for experienced yogis, they can actually be the perfect introduction and beginner’s boost that you need. We’ve been there and know that choosing the right retreat can be intimidating if you don’t have an established or advanced practice. That’s why at &Sister we place just as much emphasis on the atmosphere outside the shala as we do on the inside.
Our secluded country-house setting has provided the backdrop to memorable balls, woodland parties, magical fusion weddings, high-end fashion shoots, TV & film crews and, since Summer 2015, has been playing host to our &Sister retreats. Beyond the shala, the house and gardens come into their own. You can warm chilled winter bones infront of roaring log fires, play back gammon, toast new friendships with an Aga-brewed chai tea in our cosy country kitchen (the true heart of the house) or indulge in a deep soak in one of lovingly restored Edwardian bathrooms.
If star-gazing is your thing or perhaps merely gazing at the wonders of our universe during a moon-lit meditation, we are blessed with a night sky free from all light pollution. If your usual night is disturbed by a waking babe, we guarantee the only sound you will here is the melodious hoot of our local barn owls. If learning new nourishing dishes is your thing, our carefully sourced chefs will be happy to demonstrate their secrets with their carefully sourced ingredients. And, if yoga is your thing or you want it to be your thing, we travel the world discovering the latest teaching gems who share in our belief of making yoga accessible for all.
Our last Autumn Light retreat is the perfect example of the range of guests and abilities that combine to produce our perfect retreat. There was Thomas, all the way from Germany, new to yoga but by the end of the weekend his downward dog was as good as his fireside snoozing; we had a mum of four for whom the silence of the countryside was golden; there was our youngest guest to date, at 21; and a group of city slickers looking to recharge and learn tips for a more harmonious life.
Don’t just take our word for it, here’s what our most recent guests had to say about their &Sister experience:
“I feel like I have been put on a new planet. It was such a nourishing, plentiful, inspiring and amazing yoga retreat” Sam – Creative Designer, Sussex
“I think I’ve died and gone to British country house and yoga retreat heaven. Since arriving last night I’ve been enveloped by gorgeous scenery, wonderful food, lovely people and the most indulgent yoga classes.” Rebecca – Asset Manager, London
“Feeling so inspired after having spent such a fun, chilled, nurturing weekend…[Charlie Morgan] was “such a loving, fun, charming, talented mentor.” Marion – Lawyer and Yoga Teacher – London
“I just wanted to send you both a note to say thank you for the amazing time I had on your retreat. I am still brimmling with happiness 🙂 It was so perfect, everything about it. The things that made it really special were the little touches that didn’t go unnoticed, like the cream you left on my pillow with a little note. The goody bag was also brilliant, fresh flowers everywhere… You are so thoughtful.” Natalie – TV Producer & Mother of 4 – Oxford
So if you want to finish the weekend just that bit closer to touching your toes or going a bit further and nailing your Ganda Bherundasana or, better yet, merely escape the rigours of everyday life, then an &Sister yoga retreat is the retreat for you.
A word from Charlie Morgan, our Autumn Light Yoga Teacher
Retreats are my favourite part of teaching! They provide such a wonderful opportunity for me to spend time and get to know my clients better, and always take me to the most beautiful of places. What is unique about my retreats is that I ensure that people feel completely at home, creating a really intimate, family environment. For this reason, they are perfect for people who would like to come alone. In terms of the classes, I adapt them to suit every and any level, so that again, anyone can come along and not feel at all inferior to others, regardless of their yoga ability or experience. The main focus on my retreat is making sure that everyone takes the time to relax, meet like-minded people, practice some yoga, enjoy delicious food and go away feel refreshed, revived and inspired.
