An Evening with Jessamyn Stanley

Yoga has no sizeWe were lucky enough to get to spend an evening with the lovely Fitfluential Yoga Teacher Jessamyn Stanley while she was in London recently.  A body positive advocate who is very visible on social media, having more that 150,000 followers on Instragram.   Using this platform to show that yoga is for all.It was an intimate evening, where Jessamyn talked about her yoga journey, how she started out with a Bikram practice, which very quickly became a home practice.  There is no subject that was off limits we talked about diversity, size and colour within yoga.  How yoga help her to improve her mental health.  Politics was even discussed at one point.

How she was initially reluctant to become Yoga Teacher, but now feels that there is nothing else that she feels that she should be doing, and became a little emotional.  In her words “I had no idea I was supposed to be doing this, but now I know there’s nothing else I should be doing.”

She is such a very grounded and natural eloquent lady, who can curse and say something thought provoking sharing her experiences. The real deal no ego evident!

It was a beautiful and chilled evening, with yogis and non-yogis alike asking questions and getting to spend time with Jessamyn.

There was an OMG moment of when Jessamyn realised that she was answering a question from Julie Creffiield, Founder of too Fat to Run. She explained that she found Julie and her cause of challenging stereotypes inspirational and was one of the reasons why she got in to yoga.

It was inevitable that we would touch on the current image of yoga and spirituality and as we found Jessamyn is not afraid to say it like it is. She a total breath of fresh air and I can see why so many people including me are inspired by her and what she stands for.
