The Healthworks

Located incongruously amongst Walthamstow’s high street betting and pound shops is the calming sanctuary that is The Healthworks. For all you pregnant women out there, this is the place to come for all ante and postnatal activity. From pre/postnatal yoga and Pilates to baby massage classes, homeopathic advice on pregnancy, labour, colic, teething (to name but a few) as well as natural inductions for overdue pregnancies. The centre also offers the renowned Hypnobirthing course, which, in a nutshell, teaches you various techniques that help eradicate fear and tension that can be associated with a painful birthing experience. Whilst The Healthworks specialises in pregnancy and baby classes, it also offer a variety of yoga (Ashtanga, Vinyasa) and Pilates as well as Bellydance and Zumba!

Jo Redmond opened the centre in 2002 and back then they had just one yoga class and one Pilates they now have 45 yoga and Pilates classes! When we asked Jo why she opened The Healthworks she said, “Because I was fed up as a homeopath working in scruffy uninviting clinics. I enjoyed marketing a lot and wanted to set up my own place guided by my principles. Lots of great customer care plus very homely.” Then she adds that lots of their regulars say, “it is like being part of a family and is very community minded” (which is evident the moment you step through the door!)

The individual attention each student receives here is unparalleled -with no class exceeding four students. This is not simply down to the classes being small, but both the centre’s ethos and its teachers, namely Jo and Chloe, who find out and remember everything about you; what stage of pregnancy you’re in, whether you have any ailments; and then tailor the most relevant practice to you feeling as though you’re having a elavilnews.com.

The classes to try are Chloe’s antenatal and postnatal Pilates and if you’re pregnant, enrol on the Hypnobirthing course. For information on all classes, homeopathic treatments and courses available visit thehealthworks.co.uk
