People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Foundation is a UK-based charity dedi-cated to establishing and protecting the rightsof all animals.PETA believes that, like humans, animals are capable of suffering and have an interest in leading their own lives. Therefore, they are not ours to use – for food, clothing, experimenta-tion, entertainment or any other reason. PETA and its affiliates around the world educate policymakers and the public about cruelty to animals and promote an understanding of the right of all animals to be treated with respect.PETA works through research, legislation, special events, public education, celebrity in-volvement and protest campaigns. Its mission is to get the animal rights message to as many people as possible. Through its education programmes, PETA assists schools in bringing lessons of compassion and kindness towards all living beings to their students. And PETA’s colourful and “controversial” demonstrations and campaigns consistently grab headlines and implore people to think about the cru-elty perpetuated against animals by the food, clothing, pharmaceutical and entertainment industries. PETA’s campaigns, perhaps the most well known of which is “I’d rather go naked than wear fur”, have been endorsed by A-list ce-lebrities from Eva Mendes and Pamela Ander-son to Simon Cowell and Sir Paul McCartney. Sir Roger Moore, Tamara Ecclestone and Kate Winslet have all recently lent their support to highlight the horrific abuses inflicted upon ducks and geese raised and killed for foie gras.To learn more about PETA, please visit
