The moment I walked through the Kick Studio doors, I instantly felt the friendly atmosphere. Students were milling around, chatting away to each other – a refreshing change from the silence and awkwardness you often feel whilst waiting for a class to start. Credit to Sophie (the studio founder) who has really cultivated a lovely relaxed, laid back environment.
Wilmien (one of the teachers) showed me round the studio which has been built in the railway arches of London Fields. It’s got to be said that my favourite room was the ‘reflect’ space where you can just chill out and watch videos – what a great idea! The cafe has a healthy selection of freshly squeezed juices, protein shakes and delicious ‘Allpress’ coffee.
I tried their Kickasana class (exclusive to Kick Studio) which certainly got my blood pumping and my muscles stretching! When I had first heard about the class, I wasn’t convinced as I couldn’t understand how martial arts and yoga could work harmoniously together. But they complimented each other beautifully and I went home feeling both invigorated and relaxed.
In fact, Kick are looking for new Kickasana teachers! They are planning to teach other existing yoga or martial art teachers through a Kickasana Master Course. They will pick 10 teachers at first and the training will be with Sophie and Wilmien. You’ll learn how to teach Kickasana, what the benefits are, what the purpose is and they will also supply you with the music which is a key element of the classes. Teachers will then be able to teach Kickasana in other studios. So if you have the necessary experience and would like to apply, please contact them on the details below.
I’d thoroughly recommend trying a Kickasana class by signing up to the £20 for 20 days introductory offer. The membership packages are competitive and as well as offering a range of both aerobic and body toning classes, it’s a great place to hang out and enjoy!
