Teach of the month: Anja Brierley Lange

My journey to yoga started when I was 21-years old in Copenhagen, Denmark. I had been interested in physical, emotional and spiritual health for a long time and yoga seemed to embody all these aspects. I went to my first class and I fell in love immediately. I felt at home, safe and inspired. I wanted to explore yoga in its country of origin and a year later I went to India for six months. In my travels I spent time at the Sivananda Ashram in Kerala where I completed my first yoga teacher training course. After my travels I moved to London. Here I enjoyed exploring different styles of yoga including Iyengar Yoga, Satyananda and Vinyasa Flow whilst working full time as a manager for Neal’s Yard Remedies. It took another six years before I decided to teach. In 2005 I attended another teacher training course to develop my teach- ing skills and my own practice. I have loved teaching yoga ever since.

Sometimes life took over and I wasn’t practising much asana but more meditation, and sometimes there wasn’t a lot of practising at all. But every time I went to class or rolled out the mat I felt right at home. And that is what yoga is to me. It is like coming home. My practice is where I connect with my body, my breath, my truth. I explore how I truly feel and I can ex- press myself. Yoga is a journey that is never ending. And it is a journey worth exploring.

Based on Vinyasa Flow Yoga and Ayurveda I offer classes, private ses- sions and workshops in London, re- treats abroad and classes online. Visit yogaembodied.com to find my schedule or download a class and join me on twitter @anjayogini
