In last September’s issue, Yoga Magazine teamed up with Kingfisher Sailing to launch a reader competition to win an exclusive seven day sailing and yoga retreat for two. Lucy Walker was our lucky winner and within a month found herself sailing along the beautiful coastline of the Balearic Islands. Lucy describes how experiencing a dedicated yoga holiday offers advantages to yogis of all levels.
“I loved just being able to stop wherever we liked, discovering new places and beaches to practice on – it was magical. I feel so lucky to have experienced both sailing and yoga together. To actually be able to swim back to the boat after a session of yoga was amazing. Kingfisher Sailing also helped us become a proper working crew. I enjoyed being part of a group, hearing the stories, cooking communally.”
On-board yoga teacher, Corrie McCallum, believes that being at sea offers an exceptional platform for reflection and mindfulness, which works in harmony with the yoga and meditation taught each day. Sailing also provides a rare connection with nature as well as the chance to enjoy a truly different perspective on life.
Corrie commented: “We spend most of our days moving at a million miles per hour, in a state of digital overload. Stepping on-board the yacht and sailing away for a week encouraged a shift from focusing on our busy lives to fully immersing ourselves in our practice, creating a wonderful space for personal growth. By offering a unique perspective on life, it was impossible not to surrender control and appreciate the sense of escape.”
Kingfisher Sailing will be running a yoga and Pilates retreat on 24th to 31st May 2017, £1,095pp. For more information please visit www.kingfishersailing.com
