Ask Yogi October 2025

Q – How can I use grounding yoga practices to stay rooted during October when the days are getting shorter. I find less energetic during this season but not sure could be that my body just needs rest. What would you recommend I do to find the right balance during this time of transition?

C. Davis, Rochester

A – October is a time to deepen our grounding practices, as the colder months can increase vata imbalances such as restlessness or dryness. Grounding poses like Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I), Downward Dog (Adho Mukha Savasana), and Tree Pose (Vrksasana) help stabilise both body and mind. Incorporating seated poses like Sukhasana (Easy Pose) or Bound Angle (Baddha Konasana) can also encourage grounding and quiet the nervous system. Additionally, meditation focused on visualising roots extending deep into the earth can help cultivate a sense of rootedness during the cooler, introspective season. I would also recommend taking short brisk walks outdoors. These can enhance your vitality and strength.
