Ask Yogi February 2023

Q: My sister gets bad headaches and occasionally experiences severe migraines. She takes tablets for the pain and manages. Could you suggest anything else that might be helpful? R. Kim, Bournemouth

A: She could try incorporating some head massage into her daily routine, especially the head, forehead and eyes. A five to ten minutes massage is a good way to nourish the scalp, hair follicles but also relieve any anxiety and tension. Migraines can be caused by a variety of reasons and your sister’s GP may already have prescribed medicine. In between, I suggest she tries to find some quiet time during the week for meditation practice which can significantly help reduce fatigue, tension and anxiety. Pranayama (breathing exercises) also to help you settle the mind and reduce tension in the head. She could also have an allergy test because this can pinpoint any foods that she may be intolerant to and which can trigger head-related conditions.
