A BELOVED TEACHER, WRITER, & FRIEND TO YOGA MAGAZINE
Victor M. Parachin, M.Div. (CYT) Author, Vedic Educator, Yoga Instructor, Buddhist Meditation Teacher & Director of Tulsa Yoga Meditation Center, USA

For the past four years, Victor Parachin has been a cherished voice in YOGA Magazine. Through his Words of Wisdom column, he illuminated the lives and teachings of great spiritual masters, offering our readers clarity, inspiration, and timeless depth. His passing in August 2025 makes this the first issue in many years without his words—a loss we feel profoundly. It has been our privilege to publish Victor’s work. His thoughtful writing gave the magazine a spiritual resonance that will remain part of our legacy. Even after sharing his cancer diagnosis, Victor’s commitment to writing never wavered. Despite intense pain, he continued to contribute with humility, grace, and gratitude.
Victor researched and wrote extensively about eastern spiritual philosophy and is the author of numerous books. His book – ‘Think Like a Buddha: 108 Days of Mindfulness’ was published by Hohm Publishers and his latest book ‘Buddhist Wisdom for Beginners: An A-Z Guide’ is published by Sunstone Press.
Beyond his role as a writer, Victor was many things: husband, father, minister, teacher, and athlete. Ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he became a prolific author of thousands of articles and dozens of books. His early work on grief established him as a compassionate guide, while in later years he turned increasingly to Eastern spirituality, blending Buddhist and yogic wisdom with clarity and heart.
At the Tulsa Yoga Meditation Center, which he directed with his wife Janet, Victor guided countless students in meditation and spiritual practice. His warmth, curiosity, and booming voice made all who came to him feel seen and welcomed.
Even in his final days, Victor continued to teach—showing what it means to live fully while dying. His spirit, rooted in love and resilience, continues to shine through his words and the many lives he touched.
Victor is survived by his beloved wife Janet, their children Kristin, Geoffrey, and Michael, his grandchildren, and a wide community of students and friends. As Janet shared: “Victor’s greatest joy in life was to write, and his second greatest joy was to share what he was learning with others.”
We at YOGA Magazine will miss him dearly. With heartfelt prayers for Victor’s onward journey—Om Namah Shivaya—we dedicate this page to his memory, his life, and his immeasurable contribution to the world of spiritual understanding.
