ANCIENT ROOTS

Discovering the lost Arts of Egyptian Yoga & Krmitic Healing Arts

Words: Caroline Shola Arewa

When you’re having a tough day, reach for a good thought.

Yoga often finds us at major
turning points in life. We may
have lost direction, experienced
illness, had a bereavement or suffered
in some way. Challenging times cause
us to dig deep and ask questions. We
may look to reset and rebalance our
lives. Yoga with its spiritual secrets and
promise of wellness, offers answers
to life’s many questions. It directs us
within where we have an opportunity
to develop awareness and enhance life
in body, mind and spirit.
More than 4 decades ago I found
myself at a turning point in life. I
had recently decided to let go of a
successful fashion business and started
asking the question; “is there more
to life?” I felt the need to explore this
question. So, I literally left everything
and everyone behind and chose to
take a major sojourn. It is still one of
the most defining choices I’ve made in
my life. And it deepened my journey
with yoga. As a young seeker, I was
drawn to the yogic path not for its
physical discipline but for its profound
spiritual depth, a way of life rooted in
ancient wisdom that deeply resonated
with me. My journey took me to India
which nurtured my understanding
and practical experience of yoga.
I immersed myself in the spiritual
development ashram life provides and
surrendered to the transformation
that took place within me. I changed
forever

A believer in self-motivation via the use of affirmations, Hay taught those for others to use in their lives. Some of her most popular affirmations include: I look within to find my own treasures… Wellness is the natural state of my body… I am surrounded by love… I handle my own life with joy and ease… I am one with the very power that created me… We are all family and the planet is home… I open my heart and sing the joys of love… All that I seek is already within me… Every person, place and thing on this planet is interconnected with love… I am at home in the Universe.

Along with a great love for humanity, Hay had a deep compassion for animals often adopting neglected, mistreated creatures. “For the past twenty years or so, I’ve rescued several animals,” she shared. “I told each one, ‘I cannot do anything about your past; however, I promise you will live a life of love and joy for the rest of your lives.”

Louise Hay died August 30, 2017, her 90th year. Constantly and consistently she promoted an expansive vision of life inviting her readers and audiences to join her. “Envision the world as a great place to live in,” she wrote in The Power Is Within You. “See all the sick being made well and the homeless being cared for. See disease become a thing of the past and all hospitals now apartment buildings. See prison inmates being taught how to love themselves and being released as responsible citizens. See churches remove sin and guilt from their teachings. See governments really taking care of people.”
